The Me Not Movement
Show 1 | 1 – 3 September
-
In a not too distant dystopian future, people live with the everyday effects of climate change. Women are joining the Me Not Movement and refusing to have children. What choice will one woman make? This play explores the nature of female participation over time from home maker and baby producer, to our current situation where mothers juggle home and work responsibilities, to one where female value is again only seen in her reproductive potential.

Shirin Brown writes and directs her own plays as a cathartic escape from her role as Local Board member for Waiheke Island. Her short film, Plan B, now a fading memory, has screened in International festivals. After the local elections in September, where of course everyone will remember to vote (although not for her as she will have stepped down), she is looking forward to engaging in more creative projects. The company Why Not originated at the 48 Hour Film Competition of 2007 and works primarily with Waiheke residents and non-trained people who seek opportunities to work creatively.
