Independent Dance Company Poyema Dance

Choreographer, performer, registered dance teacher, Director of POYEMA Dance Company; registered Psychotherapist and Dance Movement Therapist, part-time academic and writer. Trained in UK and USA. Member of NZAP and AADT, Masters Degree (First Class Hons.) in Health Science. Jenny teaches and works from her studio in Grey Lynn. Her work in Dance Psychotherapy is called THE HEALING DANCE – discovering and working with the potential and resources of the ‘dancer within.’ Her favourite colour is a vivid, translucent green. Her recent show Bugs and Worms and Desire is to have a second season at Tapac in November.

Cindy Jang is interested in the relationships between politics and choreography. She continues to pursue the shifting of experienced roles between audience and participants. Her fields of interest in research include focusing on sustainability through community dance, she discovered this interest when she went to Thailand for 2 months, for her summer scholarship research. 



The piece Iron Eyes has stemmed from her postgraduate choreographic paper and is going to be extended for the spring season at the basement theatre from the 3rd-7th of October.

Choreographer Renee Richards (Auckland, NZ)

Renee Richards, competed her Bachelor of Dance Studies in 2015. She Co-choreographed How We Tessellate at the Basement Theatre in 2016 & Vacant 6 at the Auckland Fringe Festival in 2017. Renee was a dance counsellor at camp America in New York for 3 months in 2016. For 2 years now, she has competed in the Street Dance NZ National Championships placing third qualifiying for HHI worlds. This year Renee is a dancer for a collective lead by Perri Exeter & Joash, competing her Honours in dance at The University of Auckland and now the junior dance teacher at Rutherford College.

IVRE+MORT is an arts project atelier and production company conceived by Emmanuel Reynaud, Auckland based performer, with over ten years experience in the dance industry. IVRE+MORT aims, through collaboration with other artists, to work through the human condition and present pieces of art that engage audiences and stimulate an ongoing discussion about humanity and the universe and the plane of existence where they intersect.

AUĒ is artistically directed by Vivian Hosking-Aue who inspires to be one of New Zealand’s household contemporary dance choreographers (theatreview, 2016).

Choreographer Yin-Chi Lee (Auckland, NZ)

Yin-Chi Lee is currently on her third year of dance studies degree at the University of Auckland. Growing up learning Chinese dance and contemporary dance, she is also deeply interested in histories and cultures as well as Chinese Martial Arts. Through her choreography, she wishes to engage these in the choreography processes to share her visions with her dancers and audiences.

SeniorsDANCE Company: a community dance group directed and choreographed by Susan Jordan. Performers are in their 70’s and without serious dance training as youngsters. We do a couple of projects a year – Poppy Dance performed for ANZAC Day; BookEnds performed in libraries for IDOP; most recently Bike Ballet performed in Aotea Square for NZ Dance Week. Jumping to Conclusions is the first work to be performed on a stage. Susan Jordan has had an extensive career as a choreographer in earlier years and has only recently returned to her first love of dance making after too long in arts management.
