Sanskriti Theatre

Sanskriti Theatre is a dream project conceived by Swati Bhatt and Shaneel Sidal to introduce and initiate traditional Indian theatre to the audiences in New Zealand. Sanskriti Theatre aims at creating traditional as well as folk theatre performance straight from the works of Sanskrit poets and contemporary playwrights of India. The project boasts of celebrating the unique Indian theatrical arts and to make them available locally in New Zealand.

Swati Bhatt is from Ahmedabad, India and moved to New Zealand in 2014 to pursue PhD in Theatre at VUW. She learned both stage and screen skills alongside her major studies in language, literature and cultural studies. Swati had performed on stage, on screen and on streets between the years 2006 and 2011 in India. In New Zealand, she has performed in the Toi Whakaari student production in the year 2015 and during the Putahi Festival in 2016. Currently, Swati is in process of forming an Indian theatre company “Sanskriti Theatre” with Shaneel Sidal and is looking forward to spice up theatre with traditional as well as contemporary Indian flavours in Wellington.

Shaneel Sidal was born in Suva, Fiji and immigrated to New Zealand when he was 4. Living in NZ has moulded him into a creative person who is excited in performing this show. As Toi Whakaari graduate, he feels so privileged to be working in the industry. He is forming an Indian theatre company “Sanskriti Theatre” with Swati Bhatt and is looking forward to creating Indian theatre in Wellington.

Catherine is new to the Wellington scene but not New Zealand. After growing up in Hawke’s Bay she studied Drama in Canada. Finally back on NZ soil she is excited to make her writing debut here with In It Together and don a few hats including playwright, producer and actor.

3women is a newly formed independent improvised theatre group featuring Christine Brooks, Clare Kerrison and Jennifer O’Sullivan. Between them they have over 70 years of theatre experience, much of that in the form of improvised theatre. They have a history of creating compelling theatre that uses the form of improvisation.

Prospect Park Productions (NZ) was established in 2016 by producer, H-J Kilkelly, and writer, Emily Duncan. Formed to create and produce original NZ theatre, we place a strong emphasis on writer driven projects, highlighting women in the industry, and supporting practitioners to grow professionally and create quality works.

Emily Duncan is an award-winning playwright based in Dunedin. She won Playmarket’s Plays For The Young competition in 2013 with Eloise In The Middle and was runner-up in the same competition with Le Sujet Parle: And Then He Shot Me in 2014. Eloise was published by Playmarket in the anthology Here/Now in 2015.

Emily’s most recent play, Hold Me, premiered at BATS theatre in September 2016. She submitted her PhD thesis in August this year, which included a full-length playscript, Waipiata. Emily is currently working on a commission for the Young and Hungry 2017 Festival of New Theatre, entitled Fallen Angels.
