    An adapted and re-written version of David Mamet’s last scene in Sexual Perversity in Chicago. This scene originally was two men catcalling women and focuses on the hyper-masculinity and toxicity of this language. Our version is gender flipped and with a lot more tequila.

    Marc & Allison are old friends, the kind who probably should’ve gotten together years ago but somehow never did. When they reconnect at a school reunion, a one night stand ensues despite the fact that both are currently engaged to marry other people. Now, the morning after, each struggles with their feelings of regret and betrayal as they contemplate the fallout of their actions.

    Writer/Director Mike Daley comes to Auckland from Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated with a degree in acting and directing from Emerson College. He has been working on this script for a solid decade now, so he’s extremely excited to see its premiere at Short + Sweet.

  • About The Director

    Prema Cottingham is new to the directing game. She has Assistant directed on three successful theatre productions, Pardon Me Alan Turing and Welcome to Self Co. (both with Theatrewack). The most recent work was on a play she helped devise and co-wrote: (on) Whatipu (with Navi Collaborative) as was part of the Auckland Fringe Festival. Also earlier this year she co-wrote/directed her first short film ‘My Flatmate is a Monster’. The Beach marks her debut working solo as a director, and she is excited to bring her experience working as an actor for many years to this new challenge.

    Last year’s S+S showcased Aman Bajaj and Tim Booth’s first collaboration as writers,directors and sex-shop-set-designers in the tragi-comedy-drama-satire ‘Manpreet’s Spicy Emporium, Life Coach & Business Mentor Pvt Ltd. (PhD)’. Aman’s Junglee Productions premiered at S+S 2014 with the well received ‘Dhotibaba’ , followed by ‘A.I East’ (2015) and the dark satire ‘DejaMoo’ (2016). Tim’s previous S+S contributions have included ‘Footprints to New Zealand’ (2014) and ‘The Marriage Bureau’ (2015) both written with his ‘first wife’ Sharu Delilkan.

    Before Mary Granfors’ family leaped through space, moving from the US to NZ, Mary was involved in community theatre outside Seattle, directing, acting and producing. Last year, she dipped her toe into playwriting and her first play “Her Story” was part of the Ellerslie Theatre One Act Play Festival. It’s a dream come true to become a “budding playwright” and Mary is thrilled that her latest little play “A Space Oddity” is about to launch into Short + Sweet. Enjoy!

I you say thank you, is it because you mean it, or because you’re supposed to say it after you buy something? A series of monologues based on the experience of working in hospitality when you’re young. A time of so many possibilities, so many opportunities, so many sweaty times, so many cuts on your hands, so many times you just want to scream ARE YOU F$%KING SERIOUS?!
