JENNIFER DE LEON Choreographer, performer, dance teacher, Director of Poyema Dance pick-up company; registered Psychotherapist and Dance Movement Therapist, part-time academic and writer. Trained in UK and USA. Teaches and works from her studio in Grey Lynn. She works with Dance Psychotherapy – The Healing Dance. Her favourite colour is a vivid, translucent green. Choreographer: Jireh Lalotoa Peniata in collaboration with Dancers: Keyana Fuiava, Lavender Ta’ale Tuigamala and Semira Van Der Made.

Jireh is a Samoan developing artist, born and raised in West Auckland. He is currently in his third year of studying a Bachelor of Dance Studies and is a hip hop dancer for the Brady Bunch Academy. He recently travelled to Australia for his third year tour and competed at the World Hip Hop Championships held in Phoenix, Arizona. Jireh is most passionate about culture and the ability to locate yourself within movement.

Choreographers Anahera Ngatai

Anahera Ngatai Ngati Porou and Tainui Anahera completed her BPSA in Contemporary Dance in 2017. Since graduating she has been creating short works and presenting them at festivals such as ‘Feminine Tripper’ in Norway and at venues such as the Royal Vauxhall in London. Anahera is currently working as an intern with Tempo Dance Festival and Toi Maori Aotearoa.

Choreographer Georgie Goater & Maikki Palm (Helsinki, Finland)

 

NZ performer Goater (NZ) relocated to Helsinki 2 years ago, and dancer/choreographer Palm (FI) visited Auckland for the first time earlier this year. Both are currently Helsinki based dance artists. They have collaborated on ‘Drift’ with two dancers; Touch Compass star Alisha McLennan Marler (NZ), and multimedia dance artist Sierra Diprose (NZ) also with Touch Compass, as well as independent sound designer/producer James Risbey (CA/NZ), who are all active artists in the Auckland dance and performance community.

Choreographers Kim West (Auckland, NZ)

Kim West has been making dance ever since she can remember growing up in Southern California. She holds a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. While living in New York, she co-directed an arts collective, Banana Peel Dance, performing work in the USA and Europe. Her work as a Pilates instructor and Balanced Body movement educator has taken her across the globe. Kim is a recent Kiwi transplant residing in Auckland immersing herself in yoga studies.

Choreographer Yin-Chi Lee (Auckland, NZ)

Born and raised in Taiwan, Yin-Chi is an Honours Degree Dance Studies student at the University of Auckland Dance Studies Degree. Aside from dance she is also a Chinese martial arts athlete who is passionate about researching the similarities and difference between the two art forms.

Choreographer Vicky Kapo 

2018 Artistic Cv and bio. Residing currently in Melbourne, Australia, Vicky Kapo is a multifaceted artist, with indigenous heart. Her tribal affiliations are with Te Atiawa, + Ngati Raukawa. Armed with a B.A in Performance and Dance, and with renegade spirit, she uses whatever methods happen to allow fulfilment of the creative vision. Her tools of choice are movement, text, installations, sound and channeled improvisation, using all to bring a full sense of theatre. Striving to bring to performances experiences that are intimate and connecting, her works are often political, evocative, and mesmerising. She is human agent, dreamtime observer; curious about activating collective consciousness, translating dreamtime, and the joys and craft found in the construction of a well -formed sentence. Her recent 2018 and 2017 performances and artist works include: A 30 min Sound work Burning Questions with Canadian artist Carolin Kunzle for a Canadian Pirate Radio weekend festival in January 2018. Black-Out by Auckland Artist Tru Paraha – A dance theatre activation and installation; performed 15th and 16th of February 2018 @ the Kenneth Myer centre. Felt Room by Body Cartography artist Olive Beringa. A 3hr durational sensory unfolding using scores and the darkness to create a cellular somatic experience performed during the Performance Arcade festival in February Wellington NZ.

Choreographer Presley Ziogas (Auckland, NZ)

Presley is currently in her final year of a BPSA at Unitec. She is interested in using humour, irony and music to tell daker narratives and what it looks like to pick apart and abstract human feelings and experiences.

Choreographer Kesha Surti (Auckland, NZ)
Independent Dance Company Khottey Sikkey Dance School

Khottey Sikkey is a Bollywood Dance School based in Auckland for all age groups. Whilst specialising in Bollywood Freestyle dance style, the school actively incorporates Indian Classical Dance styles and various other dance styles from around the world. Kesha Surti, award winning choreographer is trained in Bharatnatyam and has choreographed for numerous events around Auckland.
